Seniors That Your Sponsorship Supports

Chester
I love to talk to people and get pets. I take life at a slower pace nowadays. I love sunning my old bones on my kuranda bed, taking long naps and eating my special kibble. I am in the forever foster program - that is how I get to enjoy all the treats that life has to offer. But Mom says I don't have enough sponsors. I have charm, charisma, wisdom, love in my heart ...... I'm sure sponsors would love me. Can you help me find my sponsors?
Chester is a senior and a special needs dog. Chester has Ehrlichiosis and a thyroid condition that requires constant monitoring.
Update: Chester crossed rainbow bridge on 1/17/2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Buzz
Buzz was surrendered by his owner for "being too old" at age 16 when his vision and hearing became impaired.
Molly Roo
Molly-Roo grabbed the attention of our shelter evaluator and quickly had her wrapped around her paw. Unwilling to leave Molly Roo on death row, our evaluator decided to open her home and foster her.
"Molly Roo is a sweet girl who really enjoys playing in the snow. She likes wearing sweaters and snuggling under blankets in the winter. She is a well mannered and friendly lady who fits in well with my own pets. She is still spry and has a lot of living left to do. We expect her to be with us for a few years."
If you would like to share in Molly Roo's golden years and make them her best ever, please consider signing up as a sponsor today. Sponsors help us provide routine vet visits and monthly medication.

Jabari
Jabari is currently our only Elderbull. He is handsome and friendly. He was a regular at the shelter we pulled him from. He had been impounded many times. His owners always came to reclaim him except for the last time. As a senior pit bull, Jabari was overlooked by adopters and turned away by all other rescues. Unable to find placement. the staff eventually added Jabari to the kill list.
Life hasn't always been kind to this gentle soul. At some point, someone hit Jabari in the left side of the head leaving his skull a bit deformed.
Jabari has been placed in a forever foster home in the country where he has thrived. He has several canine companions now and never strays from home. This city slicker was destined to be a country boy.
The only thing that hasn't changed for Jabari is being overlooked ........ just as he was passed over by adopters and other rescues, Jabari has been overlooked and passed over by sponsors.

George
I often wonder about George ending up in a high kill pound at 13 years old. George is a sweet boy but he had a lot of things going against him which landed him on death row very quickly. His coat was long and matted. He was geriatric, blind... and had a "tumor" on his head. Most likely cancer they said. So George sat quietly on death row waiting on his final walk.
Every day rescues receive hundreds of emails - many of those emails contain daily euthanasia list from area shelters. When you open a list you literally see the faces of dying dogs and you know most of them will never make it out alive. George was on a list like that. Sandwiched in between litters of puppies, healthy pit bulls and friendly black labs - there was George old, blind and said to most likely have cancer. An old discarded senior in the winter of his life when he needed his people the most. He had no shelter pledges and no foster offer. All George had was an euthanasia deadline but George's angels reached out and touched the heart of those who take the old, the blind, the ill and those who are discarded in the winter of their lives.
It has been almost six month since George sat on death row and longer since he has seen his people - the ones he loved for the first 13 years of his life. We know he had vet care at some point because he is heartworm negative. I often wonder if his people assumed the tumor was cancerous and he was at the end of the road? I sat with George while our vet stuck a needle in his head to provide a sample for a cytology. I waited with George for the results and when we received the results from his blood work and his sample, I told George that he was cancer free! The cancerous tumor turned out to be nothing more than a non-cancerous growth. George is now looking ahead. He looks forward to his favorite food, his favorite soft treats, his soft blanket, his comfortable bed, his short walks and his long naps. George finds joy in each new day and he is always excited to see what "treats" each day holds for him.
George was over looked by adopters, fosters and all other rescues while he sat on death row but you can choose George today.

Girlie
Girlie is the smallest member of the Pound Pals Family. She entered our program as part of a bonded trio who had been loaded in a box and dumped at a high kill facility. Don't let her small size fool you. Even very small dogs can be expensive rescue commitments when they have endured a decade of neglect. We almost lost Girlie early on. She had pyometra and required immediate life saving surgery. Little Girlie is a survivor and is now thriving in her foster home with her two life mates. What Girlie needs now are committed monthly sponsors.
Mary Jane (M.J.)
Mary Jane was hit by a car and left for dead. Her injuries were so severe that she lost her tail to amputation. She is still having issues with her hips and back legs.
Although MJ was injured, she would smile and try her best to greet visitors while she sat on death row.
Mary Jane is a long term rescue commitment.
Arias
Arias is one of our few adoptable seniors. He is in good health and well mannered. He gets along well with other dogs and loves people. He is a great dog and gets compliments from all who know him. Unfortunately, he hasn't caught the eye of an adopter. If you can't adopt Arias, please consider signing up as a monthly sponsor.
Meg
Meg is a 14 year old Chow Chow.
Precious
Hello. Precious here reporting from my foster home of four years. Five years ago, my owner passed away. Her nephew came and cleaned out our home. He loaded me and my life companion Lucky in his truck and we watched our home fade away in the rear view mirror.
We didn't travel very far before we made our first and only stop. The nephew unloaded us and walked us into a noisy place with lots of other dogs. Everyone was barking and carrying on. Lucky and I were placed in kennels... with cement floors. That was the last time we saw our owner's nephew.
Like our owner, Lucky and I were getting on in years. Lots of people came and went. Some stopped to say hello. Most just walked on by. Then the man who took me for my walks told me that the shelter needed our kennels to make room for other dogs. So Lucky and I were placed on the shelter's euthanasia list.
I started to fret. I was several years younger than Lucky and I had always looked to him for comfort and support. Now we were separated and our chance of ever seeing each other again was fading away just as our home had. My heart was broken. Lucky and I were going to die.
The next day the shelter staff started taking the dogs for their final walks one by one. I hoped Lucky would walk by my kennel so I could give him a goodbye wag. When the man got to my kennel, he looked at my card and said I had a last resort tag. Soon another man came to pick me up. The shelter walker hooked my leash on and took me to the front to meet my rescuer. I couldn't believe my eyes. My heart leaped with joy. There stood Lucky. We were together again.
Lucky has since crossed the rainbow bridge with me at his side. I live in a foster home now with a foster brother and sister. I often think of my owner, Lucky and the shelter. So many of the other dogs there never made it to the front room.
I am continuing to age and I need to see the vet more often these days. So today, I am asking if you will consider being my sponsor. My rescue has a variety of sponsor options to choose from. If you can't sponsor me, that is okay but please share my plea so that someone will. Thank you for considering the needs of a senior death row survivor.

Dottie
Dottie joined our program at age 14 back in 2013. She was dumped in a high kill pound by her owner along with her geriatric life companion. Her companion was picked up by another rescue so Dottie was left alone in a kennel waiting on her final walk. Prior to Pound Pals intervention, we received several promises from people who heard Dottie's death row plea - offering to sponsor her monthly. Feeling we had enough long term support, we moved forward, pulled Dottie and placed her in one of our forever foster homes. Within three months, most of Dottie's "long term" sponsors had fizzled out by the time she had been in our program for 12 months, she had no sponsors. Her last sponsor said that she didn't think Dottie would have lived this long and that she hadn't planned on such a lengthy commitment (of $25 monthly). With proper medical care, many of our geriatric seniors do live happily in their forever foster homes for several years as Dottie has. It is a shame when an old discarded dog makes her way to rescue for her happily ever after - only to hear that her happily ever after has lasted too long to suit those who committed to sponsor her through the winter of her life.
Weston
I'm not old like most of these guys. I was worried about that because a man was picking up an old dog and saw me. The shelter tech was going to take me for a walk to the euth room. I love my walks and exploring new places but I wasn't too sure about exploring that place. The man saw me cower, start to shake and then I urinated all over myself right in front of him. The man told the shelter tech that I could go with him and the old guy. So I rode along to what they call a foster home which has worked out pretty good for a guy like me. They tell me I have battered dog syndrome. I have had one facial reconstructive surgery since coming to my rescue and my doc says I may need another one.

Brownie
Brownie is one of the younger seniors in our program but his body has a lot of age on it. Brownie doesn't let that hold him down - He enjoys the company of his fur friends, loves people and lives every day to it's fullest.
Brownie suffers from severe arthritis and requires expensive monthly pain medications. Your monthly sponsorship helps Brownie get the monthly medications he needs.

Tia and Tink
This sweet little Granny duo was dumped at a high kill pound. Both have multiple medical issues. It is a miracle that they survived death row and a huge blessing that they got to stay together. They have been together their entire lives (litter mates). They enjoy each others company and do everything together. They are currently trying to attract a few long term sponsors. Please consider Granny Tia or Granny Tinkerbell.
Nickolas

Baby & Bambi
Bambi and Baby found their way to Pound Pals when an ACO sent us a special request for these bonded 15 year olds who had been surrendered by their owner because they were in such "bad condition". The ACO said "both girls are in rough shape but they are very friendly and happy".
We couldn't find it in our hearts to deny them a loving foster home simply because they had been neglected for such a long time. Both of these old babies have severe skin issues which will require multiple vet visits - they are long term rescue commitments (which is the reason all other rescues passed on accepting them) and will require long term sponsors.
Update. Bambi has crossed the rainbow bridge.

Gus
Gus is a quiet little fellow. We first noticed him as he sat quietly on death row in a high kill pound. The younger dogs were working the runway and vying for attention but not Gus ....... he just sat, watching quietly. He would have accepted any fate that life threw at him.
Fortunately, for Gus, his quiet calm presence didn't go unnoticed. In fact, it secured him a spot in our "Forever Foster" Program. He takes life at a slower pace these days and seems to savor the journey.
He has made new friends and settled into his foster home since arriving at rescue a year ago. Life is good for Gus. All he is missing are a few committed long term sponsors to help ensure he gets the routine medical care and monthly medications he needs. You can fill that void for Gus today by becoming a monthly sponsor today.

Moe
Moe has crossed rainbow bridge.
When Moe's owner passed away, faithful Moe stayed by his side. For weeks Moe waiting on help to arrive. When help finally did come, Moe was emaciated. He entered our rescue weighing only 23 pounds. Moe now resides in one of our foster homes and has made a full recovery. You can help Moe get his monthly medications and routine vet care by signing up as a monthly sponsor.

Winnie
Winnie and her two life long companions were loaded into a small cardboard box and surrendered to a high kill shelter at age 12. The little trio caught our attention while sitting on death row. Fortunately, our volunteers were able to move quickly to save their lives and keep them together.
Winnie had an injured infected eye at intake which caused her a lot of pain. She has since had surgery which removed the eye. Winnie is now enjoying the companionship of her life long mates, quality routine medical care and the comfort of a loving foster home.
The only thing missing from Winnie's current life are long term sponsors to ensure that her continuing needs are met. Please consider sponsoring a senior today and help us continue to care for discarded death row senior survivors.

Pops
Pops entered our program in 2012 as half of a bonded pair. One of his parents had passed away and the other had been dumped at a local nursing home. Three weeks after dumping the dad in the nursing home, the daughter and grand-daughter came to town to finish cleaning out the house. They intended to drop their parents beloved senior dogs at the local pound on their way home but since it was Sunday, the local pound was closed. When the daughter contacted Pound Pals she admitted Pops and Bunny had been left in the home alone for three weeks. Since the local pound was not open for intake, their "only option" was to leave the dogs once again alone in the home with nobody to care for them. When we met the daughter and grand-daughter in a parking lot (because they were unwilling to deviate from their route home), both of their trucks were full to the gills with their parents belongings. They had even rolled the carpet up. It was clear that the only things being discarded were the family pets. Pops and Bunny arrived with nothing (except each other and a jar of homemade salve they had been putting on his hairless body). Pops was emaciated upon arrival but being Dachshunds, they harbored no ill will toward their dumpers. They were happy and ready for their next adventure in life. Today, at age 14, Pops still has that happy zest for life.

Emma
Emma Grace entered our program in 2013 after being run over and left for dead. When animal control received the call requesting they remove a dead dog from the roadway, they arrived to find Emma still alive. Emma suffered a broken pelvis and was placed on the shelter's immediate kill list.
Luckily for Emma, Pound Pals maintains a foster home just for senior Rat Terriers. After receiving top quality vet care, Emma recovered from her injuries. She now resides in a Pound Pals Forever Foster home and enjoys spending her golden days with with other senior Rat Terriers, who were once discarded and waiting on death row for help to arrive. You can help Emma Grace (and others like her) by choosing to sponsor a senior today. Your donation allows us to care for our seniors and continue to help seniors who are waiting on death row with no other rescue options.

Fancy
Fancy had the most severe dental issues we have ever seen. She had a series of abcsesses and infections that caused her to be extremely sick. Due to Fancy's special needs and the expenses and time involved in her recovery, she was passed over by all other rescues.
Pound Pals went to bat for Fancy and saved her from her scheduled shelter euthanasia. Pound Pals then financed a major dental surgery which removed all of her teeth and restored her health.
Today, Fancy resides in a Pound Pals "Forever Foster" Program. She no longer suffers from years of neglect. You can help Fancy continue to get routine medical care and monthly medications by signing up as a monthly sponsor today.

Rascal
When Rascal reached the age of 13, his owner decided he was too old. That day started like any other day in Rascal's 13 years - he woke up, ate breakfast and then went for a car ride. Rascal loves car rides so he was happy to faithfully accompany his owner. Unfortunately, that was Rascal's last car ride with his owner. Rascal was driven to a high kill pound and immediately placed on the shelter's kill list for the next morning.
With almost no working time, Pound Pals volunteers mobilized quickly to pull Rascal from death row. Literally minutes prior to his scheduled euthanasia, Rascal boarded the safety of a Pound Pals transport and was whisk away to his current foster home. Rascal still spends a great deal of his time sitting under his favorite tree - perhaps he is reminiscing about his younger years that he shared with his previous owner or perhaps he is enjoying the peace and serenity of being spared a stressful shelter death on a cold steel table. Rascal will never have to worry about being unwanted again. When his time comes to cross the rainbow bridge, his foster family will be there to hold his paw. Rascal says he still has a lot of living to do before then - you can share in Rascal's golden days by choosing to sign up as a monthly sponsor today.

Sadie has crossed the rainbow bridge.
Sadie is the surviving half of a bonded pair. Although Harley and Sadie had/have been in our program for over a year, they had/have never been chosen by sponsors. Please consider sponsoring Sadie today. It is extremely sad to us when a senior is overlooked by adopters, all other rescues and crosses the bridge after a lengthy rescue stay having never been chosen by a sponsor.

Shelby
Shelby is a quiet, calm senior lady who found death row to be particularly stressful. Although arriving with blood in her stool from the constant stress of death row in a high kill facility, Shelby was lucky, she was able to attract rescue interest and secure a place in one of our foster homes.
Today, Shelby enjoys a calm daily routine with love and reassurance from her foster family.

Blackie
Blackie has a long story to tell. He spent the first decade of his life neglected. When he became too anemic and weak to stand, his owners dumped him at a high kill tax funded pound where he was immediately placed on the kill list. Pound Pals was the only rescue that expressed interest in Blackie. When our evaluator arrived, she noticed a horrible smell, an open wound on his tail and maggots literally dripping off him. We immediately pulled him, ran a late night transport and called our vet team in for an emergency visit shortly after midnight. They worked on Blackie for several hours to get him cleaned up, stabilized and his pain under control. Blackie has since had major surgery, a blood transfusion, many hydrotherapy sessions and is currently undergoing chemo. Through it all, Blackie has never complained. He faces each new day with a heart full of gratitude and love to share with everyone he meets.

Freckles
Freckles was the sweetest most well behaved dog at the shelter. She worked the runway at their big adoption event. She smiled, wagged her tail and greeted each guest to stopped by her kennel. At the end of the day, the shelter was much quieter. Most of the dogs had left with new families. Freckles drifted off to sleep wondering why nobody had chosen her.
Freckles has a cantaloupe size tumor on her rear end. Freckles was immediately hospitalized with a 104 degree fever. Her initial hospital bill was $872. We still have the tumor issue to deal with and are currently awaiting cytology results.
Freckles is a long term rescue commitment. She has monthly medication cost and will require non routine medical care. Please consider being a long term supporter for Freckles.

Arden may not catch your eye at first glance. She looks like a common black lab and her story is on all too common. A large senior lab who ended up on death row in the winter of her life. All seniors have a story to tell and Arden is no different......... we just don't know the specific beginning and middle parts of Arden's story. What we do know is that she is a friendly loving older lady who still has a lot of love to give and a lot of life left to live. You can help write the final chapters of Arden's life by signing up as a monthly sponsor and ensuring that she receives the care she needs today.
Cheeks
What can we say about Cheeks that the photo doesn't..... this pint size mixed breed senior has personality plus. We suspect that is what got him through years of being kept in a small outside pen being eaten by mosquitoes and fleas which left him high heart worm positive and anemic. Cheeks had to undergo an emergency surgery shortly after arriving at rescue when a large tumor in his ear burst and has successfully undergone heart worm treatment while in our care. Un-sponsored seniors like Cheeks result in a constant drain on our vet account. Please consider signing up as a monthly sponsor today.
Glenette
Glenette recently had surgery to remove a large cancerous mass attached to her liver. She requires monthly prescription refills which you can help her get by siging up as a monthly sponsor.
She also has a large outstanding hospital bill which must be paid. Her balance will remain on our emergency care card until funding is raised (which ties up our card for emergencies). Please consider making a donation directly to her youcaring page by visiting https://www.youcaring.com/pound-pals-for-glenette-614671

Miss Bea
Miss Bea made her way to death row in the winter of her life. Being large, black, old, fat and heart worm positive quickly landed her a spot on the shelter's kill list.
Due to her size, when it comes to heart worm treatment, Miss Bea is one of our most expensive seniors.

Dolly
Dolly and her life long companion Buddy were dumped at a high kill pound by their life long owner who had neglected them for many years. Both Buddy and Dolly tested high heart worm positive. Buddy saw that he and Dolly attracted rescue and made it out of the shelter together. Sadly, Buddy passed away on their second night of freedom leaving Dolly alone, afraid and surrounded by strangers. The stress of the shelter and the loss of her canine companion took a horrible toll on Dolly and she required immediate hospitalization.
Dolly is currently in her "Forever Foster" home where she is being treated for heart worms and heart worm disease. She has found a new friend in her foster brother and a new will to live.

Mollie
As a large black senior, Mollie had three strikes against her and was placed on the shelter's immediate kill list. Her laid back demeanor caught the eye of our senior shelter evaluator who determined that Mollie was a good fit for our program.
Fortunately, for Mollie, we offered her for consideration to our approved fosters and she received an immediate placement offer. Mollie has been blessed with a loving foster home and constant companionship from her canine foster sisters.

Virginia
Virginia came to our rescue in fall of 2013 with her bonded life mate Victoria. They were the only two of the seven their owner dumped that survived death row. Both had lived their entire lives on the end of a chain enduring hot Texas summers and continual flea infestations.
Victoria crossed rainbow bridge last year with her faithful sister, Virginia, by her side.
Virginia's past is now just a memory. These days she enjoys the comforts of living inside and taking long naps on her orthopedic bed. Her foster mom says, "She is particularly fond of the spot right under the air conditioner."

Ginger Ale
My family dropped me off at a high kill pound because I had medical issues that they did not want to deal with.
I am 15 years old and I am fighting my way back from a stroke. I was confused, heart broken and stressed in the pound. I kept looking for my family.
I was scheduled to be killed today. Nobody seemed to understand that even old, dumped and betrayed, I was fighting to live, to enjoy a few more bowls of kibble and watch a few more sunsets. When I needed the love and ...support of my family the most, they abandoned me and I realized it.
After 15 years of tail wags and loyalty to my humans, I knew I was facing a systematic shelter death. I had no adoption interest and no rescue interest ... until my new friends at Pound Pals saw me. They welcomed me with open arms. They tell me that I am now a "furever" member of the Pound Pals Family.
I was so happy to feel the sun on my face again. I am a senior death row survivor.because of supportive senior lovers like you.
